You walk into a store and you see a sign that says "$20.00 minimum purchase to use credit card."
Regardless of the amount, these signs are in violation of Visa and MasterCards merchant agreements. Even if a sign is not posted the
violation still exists when a minimum is required.

more merchants try to establish a minimum
purchase amount. The merchants say the
reason they establish minimums is due to the
costs they incur. However, the reality is that
the credit card companies do not allow
minimums. Credit card companies want to
make it easy for consumers to use credit.
The same rules apply to debit cards. Until now there has not been a website aimed at eliminating minimum purchases. Visit the "Report A Minimum" page to inform us of establishments where a minimum purchase is required.
